Understanding the different terms used in the industry will help you
communicate what you are looking for when ordering a custom logo. This page
will change each quarter to give basic information that is not easy to
find..
Basic stitch types and there uses
There is really only one stitch used in embroidery. The needle goes
down and back up. The patterns and textures are created with the movement
of the pantagram.
 | Manual.........Every in-put point is a stitch.
The
draft (art work) would be marked and the puncher would
follow the dots. When your punching system is set for manual stitches you
are putting in the needle penetrations. Remember that a long movement is
usually done as a jump stitch, or a needle up with a preset distance.
Manual stitching is used primarily for detailing where you want control over the stitch length.
|
 | Steil..............This is a back and forth zig zag or column stitch.
It is usually under 1/8 inch.
|
 | Blatt..............More often referred to as a satin stitch it
is wider that a steil. this is the stitch you find used most with
text.
|
 | Underlay.......This is used to stabilize the fabric.
Without underlay the top stitches will sink into the fabric. These
stitches are not seen in the final embroidery and if applied correctly it can
help to add a 3 dimension look to the final result..
|
 | Bean Stitch.....This is a 3 ply running stitch. The
machine sews two stitches forward then one backward. It is used where a heavy
outline is needed.
|
 | Fill or Step..... Where large areas are covered with stitching
we use a fill stitch. Several patterns can be make by altering the
percentage of the offset and sewing angle. Many systems now allow you to
create very beautiful texture effects some with more than one color. |
